Our story is one of collaborations, past, present and future. It is about the important part they play in making good architecture. This collaborative approach is at our heart. We work with people. We work with you.

We love to use natural material palettes, expressing them honestly, letting natural light animate them.

As architects we feel fortunate to have the opportunity to be involved from conception to completion and, in many cases, beyond. This is where our skills in balancing the various relationships become so important. Building a home is often a long journey and we aim to gently guide you along the way.

Before LYONS ARCHITECTS

Nicholas studied at The Manchester School of Architecture where he gained both a BA (Hons) in Architecture and a Bachelor of Architecture. During this period he furthered his experience with OMI Architects and also studied at Melbourne University, Australia.

At Hogarth Architects, in London, he became qualified as a chartered architect and worked closely with the two directors to help grow the practice from 2 to 8 architectural staff whilst learning about how to remodel existing, often Listed, buildings with respect to their place in architectural history.

Nicholas moved to Spacelab in order to broaden his experience in different sectors. Projects included new build houses, large scale new build residential developments, projects for UK Government clients, commercial clients such as Virgin Money and a number of Marketing and Comms agencies. This gave Nicholas a comprehensive understanding of both the private and public realms in both domestic and commercial spheres.

Nicholas left Spacelab in search of further experience and new collaborations with a view to setting up his own practice. Nicholas worked with Chilean born, UK based, architect Sebastian Avendano on a number of central London properties where he not only had to navigate the high end design challenges but also the intricacies of getting things built in tight urban situations. In addition to local authorities, he had to manage relationships with freeholders and land owners such as The Grosvenor Estate.

Nicholas then founded a new practice, HAMISH & LYONS along with Hamish Herford, an ex-colleague from Hogarth Architects. They worked together on various high end residential projects including the award wining Frame House and Stepping Stone House, as featured and commended in national newspapers, architectural journals, international design publications and awards programmes.

After finishing Stepping Stone House, Nicholas established his current practice, LYONS ARCHITECTS. where he continues to nurture the skills and working ethos that came before whilst developing new ways of working. Building new relationships to help guide the practice and clients into the ever changing realm of architecture and construction.
